Excuse me VI?! :)

and I quote: "Kris - she's so gullible, but that's why we love her!"

TGIF again

My bosses are taking me and some of the other assistants in the office to lunch today. It is a late celebration for "Adminstrative Professionals Day." Oh boy. Who cares, but it is free food and Im hungry. I am already thinking about what I want. I havent decided yet.

Today is cheerleading tryouts at my daughter's school. This is the first year she has had to try out. There are 25 trying out and they can only take 18. She isnt nervous. I am! We wont find out til late tonight if she makes it. We sent her a stuffed bear with flowers. Send good thoughts her way please.

My sister came to see me at work today. I dont see her very often. We should get together more. She brought me pictures of my nephews. Twins. They are nine years old. I cant tell them apart. Every time we all get together they are usually dressed alike, but maybe have different shoes, so I ask, "Which one are you?" Then I have to remember which one had boots on. They wrote my daughter a "good luck" note.

Broken Silence

Good news, hubby started a new job Monday. It pays exactly half of what he was making, but still a tad more than unemployment pays. Sad huh? He made good money at his old job and we knew going in, that it wasn’t something he wanted to make a long-term career out of. It was in a line of work that he had been in and this company kept pursuing him. Telling him that every time they asked whom the best was, that his name kept coming up. They asked what it would take to get him, so he shot them some outrageous number thinking they wouldn’t accept it and they did! So we enjoyed what he made and had plans to pay off a few things. We almost got everything accomplished that we wanted before they let him go. In a way, him losing his job was a blessing.

We had rain showers last night, so you know what that means in the springtime. Yep. Baby birds get blown out of their nests and it is the responsibility of my cat to go round them up and bring them to our house…dead or alive. The count was at two when I left this morning. Early this morning while I was getting ready for work, one was still alive and I could hear it. I feel so bad, but there is nothing I can do. Even if the cat doesn’t kill it, it would die anyway. I feel sorry for the momma birds.

Speaking of sad, my daughter isn’t anymore. Her and her bf got back together yesterday. I was still emailing his mom and she was emailing me. It was sad last week though. My daughter sent an email to his mom. She thanked her for taking them places and buying her dinner and things. She told her how much she was going to miss seeing and talking to her and his little sister, G. She told his mom if she ever needed a babysitter for G (she is two) that she would like to do that. His mom sent me a copy of the email and what her reply was to my daughter. It was really, really sweet and it made me cry. His mom said she had cried reading it and then while writing her response. She emailed me yesterday morning telling me that he had come home and told his mom that he liked someone else! She couldn’t believe it, and then he said, “Mom, I never stopped liking (my D).” Awwww. So I guess this other little girl was fun to flirt with, but not to have. All the kids at school were giving him and this other girl a very hard time. I was glad to see so many kids coming to my D’s aid, but yet my heart went out to him. Kids can be so cruel to each other.

Baby Birds and Trashcans

Awwwwwwwwww. Take a deep breath. Do you smell that? Yep. It’s the smell of spring. Spring is in the air! Do you know how I can tell? We have three little green tomatoes coming out on our tomato plants, there are a bunch of tiny red buds on our rosebushes that are getting ready to bloom and there are baby bird guts and legs on our back step. Yep. The cat is eating the baby birds and their mommas ain’t happy. Oh those momma birds just scream and holler at him. They follow him all over the neighborhood. They sit and wait for him when he comes in the house. The swoop down and peck his back and tail. They have even swooped down at us for being too close to him.

This morning I went outside and I could hear them in the tree beside our driveway. I was under the carport and couldn’t see them. So I walked out and looked up and there sits our cat on a branch up in the tree. The birds are sitting there right beside him throwing a fit. He sees me and shimmies down the tree to come in for breakfast. Even though he shouldn’t have been too hungry after the ‘snack’ the apparently just had based on the reminants that were left. Or maybe I should say the lack thereof.

Now before you all go getting on to me for letting my cat out to kill these poor innocent babies, let me say he was an outdoor stray when we found him and an outdoor cat he will always be. There is no keeping him in the house if he wants out. He will sit at the backdoor and stretch up on his hind legs and paw at the doorknob to let us know when he is ready to go. If we don’t let him when he ready, he gets mad and will growl at us when we go to pet him. He will tear down the window shades to let you know he is ready to go out. He comes in long enough to eat. We refer to it as “refueling". Then he is gone again.

Last weekend our church had a garage sale to help raise money to send to another country so that a school could have a well to be dug so they can have clean drinking water. The church said that anything would be accepted. I told my mom about it and she commented that she had a bunch of stuff she would like to put in it. Well, since Hubby isn’t working, she paid him to go to her house and pick up the stuff in his truck.

One of the items that she had was this old, old rusty bicycle. It was in such bad shape that Hubby and I opted to leave it at home and throw it away. We were too embarrassed to take it. That bicycle was so bad that we had it sitting out by the curb all week and no one has even bothered to steal it.

Wednesdays are our normal trash pick up days and Thursdays are the day when they pick up large items and bagged leaves. This morning I heard the truck coming up the street. I had hoped that they would even take the darn thing. I was scared that they might think that some poor kid had left it by the street and leave it there.

As I went out to get in the car to go to work this morning, Hubby walked out with me. I looked over and I said, “Oh good! They picked up that bike!” Then it hit me. When I came home from work last night I had noticed that our trashcans were laying on top of the bike. So I looked at him and I said, “Did they take our trashcans too?” He laughed and said, “I didn’t pick them up.” as he went to look around the side of the house where we usually keep them. He came back laughing and shaking his head, "They took'em. They're gone."

Now that is sad when your garbage cans are mistaken for trash! I mean they weren’t new, but come on! Talk about kicking a man when he is down. Hubby is still unemployed and that was not on our list of things we needed to buy this weekend!

Dont Mess with My Baby

So my daughter and her first little boyfriend broke up. It all goes back to what I wrote about here. They (my daughter and her bf) seemed to have had a little "stalker" that just wouldn’t leave him alone and the stalker girl finally got what she wanted...him.

Of course we all know, or at least we adults do, that now she has what she wants, the game is over. There is no challenge left in the poor boy and he will be tossed out like yesterday's lunchroom leftovers.

My daughter cried herself to sleep last night. She misses him. Her heart is broke.

Honestly, this kid was a little nerd before my daughter. His mom even told me that she was so happy to see how much he had changed and that it was all due to my d. She said that my d had given him “confidence”. So while my daughter was giving him confidence, he pays her back by taking some of hers away?!? The confidence that she gave him came back and bit her in the ass! He is so much more confident now that he is more ‘desirable’ to other girls.

This other girl not did not even know who this boy was or his name until my daughter brought him to a cheerleading function. And from that night on, this other girl attached herself to them. Maybe she was the glue that held them together? They went out for four months, but this girl has been trying to weasel in for the past two. Maybe he just got tired of trying to fight her off and gave in.

This other girl would literally follow my d and her bf. She would call and text the bf and bring him gifts, like candy bars and things. She is from a very affluentical family and I don’t think the girl has ever heard the word no. I am sure she is used to getting whatever she wants, and this time she wanted my daughter's bf and wouldn’t stop till she had him. She would pretend to be my daughter's friend, which my d could see straight through, asking her to go to the movies , sitting by her in school during class and lunch, etc. But yet all the while telling the bf that she thought my d was "controlling" and that the bf was "whipped". Now this is all coming from another 13-year-old girl. This girl really scares me. She had a stalkerish nature about her.

Last week my d and her bf had a disagreement while she was at his house and when I picked her up they were mad at each other. By the time she and I got home, he had left her three voicemails on her cellphone and texted my phone, asking me to have her call him. The voicemails she had to delete because they were of him sobbing uncontrollably and she could barely understand what he was saying. His mom told me the next day that he was "wailing" and crying so hard that he was scaring his two-year-old sister. He was crying and saying that he had never felt this way about any other girl and that he couldn’t go on without my daughter and if they broke up, he couldn’t go to school the next day. So we go from this on Thursday night to him breaking up with my d on Monday night.

He told my d that he wasn’t sure who he liked. That he might not like anybody, that he didn’t want to date anyone. But yet the next day he and the other girl are "going out." Oh the drama. Now "no one" likes him or her, (except each other of course), every one at school is mad at him (which I can attest to after reading some comments left for him on his Facebook ~ a younger version of MySpace).

I feel like the little shit not only broke up with my daughter, but with our family as a whole. I really liked his mom. We got to be good friends. We would take the kids out to eat dinner and send emails back and forth about the plans that the kids might have for the weekend. We are still talking and are friends, but as you know, its a tad strained. I want to tell her what an ass I think her son is, but I think that might not be the right thing to do.

So why do I sit here telling you all this long and drawn out story about a typical end to a teenage first love? Because it brings up the age-old parent-child battle as to what do we know as parents? And apparently I know nothing, just ask my daughter. The advice I have been giving her couldn’t be further from the truth...just ask her. I mean what in the hell do I know at my age? Its not like I dated in high school and had my heart ripped out. Its kind of funny really, I think I remember having these same, "You don’t know Mom!" talks with my mom when I was a teenager. My poor mom. She didn’t even have a blog to come and vent on. lol

I was telling my mom about it this weekend. I told her that I felt bad for having so much disdain for a 13-year-old girl...a child. But that there was just something about this girl that bothers me. It was the manipulation and the deceit that she has gone to. My mom remarked that she sounds a lot like my dad's ex gf, the one who pretended to be my mom's best friend, the one who used to come to house all the time, the one who went on vacation with my family...all the while she and my dad were having an affair. That was it! Even at 13, this girl has learned to manipulate men.

Maybe this girl will break his heart and hand it back to him just like he did my daughter's. I can only hope.

Shiny and New

When you are young, you are pure, full of innocence and trust. And I am not talking about in a sexual way, but with life and people, but most importantly, your heart. It's not scratched or dented. It’s whole. It’s shiny. It’s new. But as you get older, your heart gets a scratched and dented. Maybe not big dents, maybe just little dings. Your heart loses some of the shine and it becomes tarnished. But hopefully as you get older, you will find that special someone who will polish your heart and make it as bright as it possibly can be. But the dents and scratches, they cant ever be removed. They are permanent. My daughter suffered her first scratch on her perfect little heart. The teenage years aren’t any better the second time around. They still hurt. Maybe more. I hurt because she hurts. She is my heart.

Aww...I'm blushing

I couldnt figure out where the 'new' people were coming from. They commented that they were here by way of Burg. I just figured they were following her blogroll. Then it hit me, "Uh oh! What if she said something about me!" So, *blushing*, a big THANK YOU! to Burg for the shout-out on her blog. Somedays it feels really good to know that people really are reading. I truly appreciate your kind words and because of you, I found the energy needed today to create a post. Now I will have to put on my thinking cap and work on my awards. Thanks again Burg.

Yada, yada, yada

Why does it seem that most ideas and thoughts come to you in the shower? I can think of so many things to write about when I am in the shower, but as soon as I where I can sit and write, they are gone. Like water down the drain. So. Here’s the idea I came up with this morning…what if there was a waterproof laptop that you could type on while you were in the shower?!? Soon there would be shelves and alcoves in shower stalls where we can stand and blog! Oh hell, why stand? Lets make the showers big enough to put a small desk area and we can sit down, shower, and blog as all the ideas come pouring out, like the water from the shower head! (I love analogies....can you tell?)

I work in the house financing business and a lot of times we get to go out and look at houses. I love going to look at the new constructions. One jouise we went to had a fireplace in the master bedroom. So what, big deal huh? Well the fireplace was two sided, on the other side was the master bathroom. You could relax in this big Jacuzzi bathtub with a fire in the fireplace. All nice and toasty. And guess what was on the wall above the fireplace? A flat screen tv. Nice huh? Now all I would need is a little frig to keep the wine and fruit chilled.

We had a storm that came through about 1am this morning. I woke up and could hear the thunder way off in the distance. So could the dog. Our dog is TERRIFIED of storms. She knows the sound of the storm warning on the tv. She can be in a different part of the house sleeping, when a storm warning will come on and then she'll come slowly walking down the hall, ears back, eyes big, trembling and starting to whine. I guess she needs some of type of doggieValium.

I am not like that though, I love to hear the thunder and see the lightening. Especially when I am in bed sleeping. I raised the blinds and watch the lightening dance across the walls.

After the rain last night, every thing is so green this morning. The rain was good for the plants I just planted. We bought some flowers and two tomato plants a few weeks ago. We put the tomatoes in big planters. We tried to plant some a few years ago in our backyard in a little garden area, but it was too shaded and they died. I love fresh tomatoes in the summer, so I wanted to try again. I hope by having them in the planters, I can move them to sunlight or out, if needed. We had to bring them in for a few days over the weekend because of a frost warning, on Easter weekend!

Tomato plants and fresh tomatoes in the summer remind me of when I was a kid. We had rows of tomato plants. About 20-24 plants. There were just 4 of us in my family. And that was all we grew. Tomatoes. We ate them with every meal in the summer. I loved them. I would slice them up and sprinkle on a little salt and pepper, two or three at a time sometimes, and then drink the juice off my plate. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! The only time I didn’t like having tomatoes was when my dad would make my brother and me go out and ‘weed’ the garden.

My daughter got braces Monday. This is the second time she has had them. They went further around the side of her mouth this time. She got bright yellow and hot pink bands on them. I told her that her mouth looked like an Easter basket with dyed eggs in it and Easter was over!

She and I were talking later about her going to school the next day and all the kids seeing them. She is a typical teenager; her face is starting to break out with the pre-pubescent zits. So we were talking and she said, “Great! I have pimples and now braces!” Then all of sudden she said, “And GLASSES too!” I had forgotten that she had gotten glasses at the beginning of school so that she could see the blackboard. I had to stop myself from laughing. Awww, the joys of being a teenager! My little girl is a nerd!

I had a funny dream last night. First let me say that my grandmother had white hair from the day I was born. I don’t think I ever saw a picture of her when I was little that she didn’t have white hair. In fact, the first picture ever taken of her holding me, she had white hair. All of my life my dad has told me how much I am like her. So a few months ago when I started discovering these white coarse hairs on my head. I panicked. I have never been one to color my hair, but I guess it may be time to start because I don’t want to be prematurely gray! But in my dream last night, I was doing something to my hair and I parted it differently than I normally do and underneath my “normal” hair, was this white streak. It was like a bad dye job and my roots were completely white. Its funny now, but I wasn’t laughing in my dream!

Blogging 101

How do you read your blogs? Do you start at the beginning of your list? Alphabetical order? Or with your favorite? Or maybe you save the best for last?

How do you decide on the blogs you want to add to blog list? What if you add someone, but then you lose interest in their blog? Do you delete them? What if they notice?

Do you have blogs that you lurk on? And never comment? Why dont you comment?

When you do comment, do you go back and check during the day to see if the writer has commented on your comment?

Sour apples and people

I have been craving an apple. I was so happy that I was going to get to have one this morning. It was horrible. I ate a few bites and threw the rest of it away. I hate it when the skin is thick and it is sour. It made me think. People are like apples. I hate ones with thick skin, that are sour and bitter. I like the ones that are softer and sweeter.

Can I play?

Ever feel like you dont fit in?

Ever feel like you are sitting back watching the 'popular' kids play all around you, but they wont talk to you or include you in their games?

Sometimes I just dont feel like I belong.

A box of memories

Last week my daughter was working on a project for her geography class. Her project was on Switzerland. I told her that we could get my pictures and scrapbook out from when I went.

So, she went with me to the storage room and helped me find the box where I kept it. It was in a big storage box full of my high school memorabilia. It has old notes from my first love, a memory book of my senior year, newspaper clippings, my cap and gown from graduation, prom pictures, school play and graduation programs, senior pictures of friends, little trinkets that had my name on it that I had made or that friends had given to me. All things that at one time had valid meaning to me.

As we were digging through the box, I was picking up things and telling her about them, stories of whom I was with, what we were doing, etc. Soon we found the things we had originally set out to find and we proceeded to put up all of the things that we didnt need. When we were done and as I was snapping the lid closed to a time in the past and the memories that went with it, my daughter said, "Someday I want to have a box like this."
I smiled and thought to myself, 'Oh you will.'

For me

(click to make bigger)
I debated whether or not to post this. In this vast world of blogging, I have seen so many people who don't believe like I do. Sometimes I am afraid that by speaking out, I might offend some people who may read this, but you know what? This is for me. I am not one to try and cram my beliefs, thoughts or ideas on to someone. So read this if you want, if you don't, that's fine too.
Happy Easter.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Because he doesnt know

News for JW from "across the pond"...

Read here and here as to why I made that comment about Rosie.

I am curious to know what everyone else thinks about it.

Colors?

Just because curiousity got the best of me and apparently some people who read and comment too! lol

Look here: Colored M&M's!

Our "colors" for my place of employment is blue and white. My boss and I once did a promo and we ordered nothing but blue M&M's and filled up a candy jars.

*Warning*

Beware! Enter at your own risk!
Long, rambling post ahead!

Well Hubby is still unemployed. He did have another job interview today, so keep your fingers crossed for us please. He applied online one night, got a call the next and an interview the next. This is after he put down on the online application about half of what he was making at his old job. He is afraid that his last salary was scaring people off from hiring him, so he initiated a pay cut himself. Maybe it will work.

Last Friday night we had dinner at our daughter’s boyfriend’s house. His mom told me that her family already affectionately refers to us as the “in laws”. So yeah, my daughter is only 13 and it looks as if we have her in a prearranged marriage! It was a very casual dinner, nothing fancy. We ate when we wanted. The kids dyed Easter eggs and we all stood around talking.

He has a two-year-old sister that managed to keep us all entertained. At one point during the night I was outside on the deck with her where she has a Little Tykes playhouse. She opened the door and went in and with the sweetest little voice said, “Come in.” Now how could I refuse that invitation? So…I went in. About that time I heard boyfriend’s mom ask, “Where did your mom go?” (talking to my daughter) My daughter looked out on the deck and said, “I think she is in (baby’s) playhouse?” His mom said, “No! She’s not!” They looked and she said, “ Well, I guess she IS!”

Let me tell you here before I tell the next story that my kitten, who turned one on March 6th, does not go outside, ever. He came in the house when he was 8 weeks old and he has never been back out. His momma goes, because she was a stray when we found her and she knows her way around and our other male cat stays outside 95% of the time anyway, for the same reason, he was a stray when we found him too. But my baby boy? No. He is strictly an indoor cat.

We had left for dinner Friday around 6pm and we got back home around 10. We came in the house and I called for my baby, as I always do. He didn’t come. We opened all the closets, all the bedrooms….everything….he was nowhere to be found. I panicked. My heart sank! He had gotten outside. Who knew for how long! We all took off outside with flashlights in hand. Crawling around on our hands and knees, looking under cars in driveways, shining flashlights in people’s backyards. No cat. I was devastated. I just knew he was gone. He has been indoor all of his life. He didn’t have the “skills” he needed to stay outside. He is stricly a momma’s boy! (My husband says that in itself is enough reason for the other cats in the neighborhoold to pick on him and kick his butt, but I dont care!)

Then I saw his face! He was about three houses down the street and he wouldn’t come to me! As I got closer to him, he went under the car and wouldn’t come to me. I knew that he was traumatized from being outside for so long. Suddenly he bolted out from under the car and took off up the street to our house. Thankfully my daughter was standing there, so when he got to our house, he plopped down in the grass and started rolling around. She reached down and picked him up. After we brought him in, he just collapsed on the floor. He was exhausted from his four-hour ordeal.

I shudder to think about what could have happened to him while he was outside. I told my husband that I couldn’t have gone to bed that night knowing my baby was outside. I told hubby that I would have just had to sleep on the carport. He died laughing and said, “ I would have liked to have seen THAT!” Little does he know…he would have been out there with me!

Easter is this weekend. It looks like we may have to wear our winter coats while we have an Easter egg hunt. Seriously, the weather man said that there may be a freeze warning on Easter morning. My mom’s birthday is the 9th, she has always told me that last cold spell of the season will happen around her birthday. She said as a child she would always get shorts or a dress to wear for her birthday and she would always have to wait to wear it because it would always turn off cold. I guess she knows what she is talking about.

What are we going to do about he price of gas?? I have a little four- door economy car, but with gas at $2.59 a gallon, even driving that is becoming expensive!

Can you believe the comments that Rosie O’Donnell is making now? I really cant stand her or her outrageous comments. She needs to learn to keep her mouth shut.

I guess I should heed my own advice and and get home. Barbeque chicken for dinner tonight. Yum. See ya later!

#4

There was a package delivered to our house today. It was from hubby's youngest brother and his wife. Inside was a package of blue, pink and white M&M's. The blue ones say ‘boy’ and the pink ones say ‘girl’. The white ones have ‘#4’ on them in pink or blue. So it looks as if we are going to have another niece or nephew. This will be their fourth child.

And we were all wondering what they were going to do with that new house they just built that has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms! How stupid of us!

Jelly Bean Prayer

THE JELLY BEAN PRAYER

RED Is for the blood he gave.

GREEN Is for the grass he made.

YELLOW Is for the sun so bright.

ORANGE Is for the edge of night.

BLACK Is for the sins we made.

WHITE Is for the grace he gave.

PURPLE Is for his hour of sorrow.

PINK Is for our new tomorrow.

A bag full of jelly beans
so colorful and sweet,
is a prayer, is a promise,
is a loved one’s treat.

It Is Well...

I love to sing, even though I can't, especially in church. We sang this song yesterday. I remembered that this song had a 'history' to it, but I had forgotten it, so I looked it up.

"It Is Well with My Soul" hymn written by Horatio Spafford. It was written after two major traumas in Spafford’s life. The first was the death of his only son, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire of October 1871, which ruined him financially (he had been a wealthy businessman).

After about two years of such work, in 1873, Spafford and his family decided to take a vacation. Horatio was delayed by some business, but sent his family on ahead. He would catch up to them on the other side of the Atlantic.Their ship never made it. Off Newfoundland, it collided with an English sailing ship and sank within 20 minutes. Though Horatio's wife, Anna, was able to cling to a piece of floating wreckage (one of only 47 survivors among hundreds), their four daughters--Maggie, Tanetta, Annie, and Bessie--were killed. Horatio received a horrible telegram from his wife, only two words long: "saved alone."

Spafford boarded the next available ship to be near his grieving wife, and the two finally met up with a friend. "It is well," Spafford told him quietly. "The will of God be done."

Several weeks later, as Spafford’s own ship passed near the spot where his daughters died, the Holy Spirit inspired these words. They speak to the eternal hope that all believers have, no matter what pain and grief befall them on earth.

Lyrics ~ Peace Like a River (to listen)
When peace like a river, attendeth my way;
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

It is well...with my soul... It is well, it is well, with my soul...

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

It is well...with my soul... It is well, it is well, with my soul...

He lives--oh, the bliss of this glorious thought;
My sin, not in part, but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Oh my soul.

It is well...with my soul... It is well, it is well, with my soul...

And, Lord, haste the day when our faith shall be sight
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trumpet shall sound, and the Lord shall descend;
Even so, it is well with my soul...

It is well...with my soul... It is well, it is well, with my soul...
